It’s My Birthday

Cake  Yesterday was my birthday.  I was not feeling too good about turning 61 until I got to the office.  My son, Jason, gave me a hug and wished me a Happy Birthday and informed me that he wrote a post on his blog titled “Because of my Dad“.  Reading that post really broke me up.  He said so many nice things that I was sure he was not talking about me.  It is nice when your kids appreciate you, but little embarrassing when you don’t feel like you measure up to their praise.  Finally, he made everyone in the office stop what they were doing and sing Happy Birthday on a very busy day for tax deadlines. I am sure our employees did not feel like singing, but it did made me feel like a kid again at my birthday party.

My son, Paul, called to wish me a Happy Birthday.  He purchased a book on Amazon for the occasion that I wanted to read.  Also, he sent cookies, brownies, and special coffee from his catering business to our office.  The goodies were yummy and the coffee was strong just the way I like it.

Other well wishers included a friend buying my lunch, emails and telephone calls from far and wide, and on my facebook there was a lot of activity on my wall.

Since it was Tuesday, that night I headed out to the homeless ministry.  You guessed it; about 80 homeless guys and gals sang Happy Birthday before eating their meal and many gave me their best wishes as they headed out on the street for another cold night.

I started the day feeling a little sad but by the end of the day I realized how blessed I am to have such a wonderful family and friends that wanted to celebrate my birthday.  Now it is back to the grindstone. I can’t expect to party everyday.

  1. I’m glad a bunch of homeless guys sang Happy Bday to you – I bet that was a great version of the old classic.

And I’m glad you had a great day.

    Thanks, Jason M. Blumer

  3. That last comment was from me…Jason and I are constantly logging each other out in blog world.
